Why?

Posted by 2tak on August 24, 2006

Why blog? What is the purpose? There are three things that are really driving this right now:

1. I need to write more. The older I get the more I realize that I am becoming intellectually more specialized. I recently started reading books again, but that is only half the answer. Writing is great exercise for the intellect, and this seems like a great way to exercise.

2. There are so many cool things going on around the internet right now, and a blog is a great way to try out a lot of them. I will discuss some of these in more details as I apply them to this blog. One example is LibraryThing, a great tool for managing your library of books. You can see a list of my recently added books on the sidebar.

3. I enjoy intellectual interactions with others and hopefully this blog will provide a forum for some of that to take place.

If I am disciplined enough I will post at least once a day. Time will tell.

Dude!! Website looks great! I totally agree. The brain is probably THE most important muscle in the body….well, there is that whole thing of smooth/autonomic muscle. I guess you do need the heart to beat. Then there is the little matter of aspiration. Ok, the brain is VERY important and I’m scared, yet strangely intrigued by your choice to expand your exercise repertoire.

    Make it hap’n cap’n!!!

So I was in my car, and I was driving along, and my boss rang up and he said ‘You’ve been promoted’ And I swerved And then he rang up a second time and said ‘You’ve been promoted again’ And I swerved again He rang up a third time and said ‘You’re managing director’ And I went into a tree And a policeman came up and said ‘What happened to you?’ And I Said ‘I careered off the road’ — Tommy Cooper

  3. But why, some say, the moon? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask, why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? Why does Rice play Texas? We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade, and to do the other things, not because they are easy but because they are hard.

  5. When his life was ruined, his family killed, his farm destroyed, Job knelt down on the ground and yelled up to the heavens, ‘Why god? Why me?’ and the thundering voice of God answered, ‘There’s just something about you that pisses me off’ — Stephen King

  6. If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed — Albert Einstein

  7. Throughout American history, the government has said we’re in an unprecedented crisis and that we must live without civil liberties until the crisis is over It’s a hoax — Yale Kamisar, 1990
